The BBC, CNN, CBC Newsworld and other all-news broadcasters covered scarcely anything but the narrowly averted catastrophe throughout the day. Funny thing, but the general public wasn't buying it. The reaction was surprisingly cynical...

See the trends move fast near the end of the decade. Some areas chose slimmer gals that appear to better fit the Flapper styles of the times. Many men of the day would see Miss Austin as being horribly sickly, but today she would have the attributes of a runway model! And yes, Miss CA is absolutely adorable, and the St. Louis pageant must have had very few contestants.

Marnie Webb and Linda Corso with U of G's food Safety Network have been featured in the national media over the past week discussing the recent Maple Leaf Foods Inc. meat recall and giving advice to consumers. Corso appeared on CBC's Newsworld and also answered questions online for Globe and Mail readers. The questions and answers were published in Thursday's newspaper.
